Besichtigung Fährenpfortenturm (Hagelturm)
The historic Hagelturm in Hann. Münden opens its doors to visitors every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday from 1 pm to 5 pm from May to the end of September. The striking building, once part of the medieval town fortifications, impressively combines town history, industrial culture and panoramic views.
First mentioned under the original name "Fährenpfortenturm" in 1383, the tower received its current name through its later use as a production facility for hailstone shot. In the 19th century, it was raised to 40 meters in order to produce lead shot using the so-called tower casting process - a process in which molten lead drops fell into the depths and solidified into small balls.
Inside, a small museum of the work awaits visitors with the original hail shot plant as well as historical equipment and machines. An accompanying film vividly illustrates the former production process.
Those who climb the steps up to the viewing platform are rewarded with an impressive view over the historic old town of Hann. Münden and the charming Weser Uplands. A visit to the Hagelturm combines history, technology and views in a very special way.
