Night hike in Melsunger Land

Program 2023:

We meet at the Am Sand car park in Melsungen and drive together with a shuttle bus to the Metzebacher Höhe. Here you can refresh yourself with bratwurst and a cool drink and enjoy the fantastic sunset from the “Cinema Natura”. At nightfall we start with two experienced hiking guides into the night and walk over the Dreikönigsstein and Herzblumenplatz to Spangenberg. At midnight the cocktail taxi awaits you with freshly mixed cocktails. To “wake up” there is also a small coffee break before continuing through the night to Melsungen. At the highest point of the Melsung city forest – the Weltkugel – you can “breathe” again and sign up for the summit book. Now we only have to go downhill to the destination of our tour – the historic town hall in Melsungen, where a rich breakfast awaits you.

Review 2022:

At the train station in Melsungen, the hiking guides explained the route, the procedure, the peculiarities of the tour and the altitude profile. Then we went with the train in good spirits towards Morschen.

At the monastery Haydau a nice guide was waiting for us and explained us a lot of interesting things about the monastery grounds with garden, angel's hall, orangery, monastery church... Slowly the sun went down and the monastery grounds were bathed in a warm red light.

At 21.30 clock we started with the actual walk and we ran on the Fuldahöhenweg X17 towards Heina. On the way we met cows, donkeys, horses and the first fireflies.

In Heina we took a short drink break before we went uphill again to the Wildsberg. At the hut at Franzosenkopf - at the highest point of our night hike - there was a longer break. Freshly strengthened we then ran past the Mordbuche and the Jägerslust towards Malsfeld.

At the brewery museum Malsfeld S ́Else waited for us with curlers and coats and cursed us first of all, what we have to do here in the middle of the night and why we make such a noise :)

Then she accompanied us on a fun beer tour through the museum. There were three kinds of snacks (Schmalzenbrote, Ahle-Wurscht-Brote and Laugengebäck) and three different beers to try. By the way, we learned a lot about beer production and learned lots of funny toasts.

After a coffee we continued through the night towards the morning.

In a good mood we reached Melsungen around 5.00 am, where already fragrant coffee and a small breakfast awaited us in the town hall meeting room. They ate and chatted together and each participant received a certificate and a hiking pin at the end.

Conclusion: A wonderful experience that will be remembered for a long time!
We are looking forward to next year and will come up with a nice route and an interesting supporting programme.
