Museum Fridericianum

The Fridericianum Museum was founded in 1779 by order of Landgrave Frederick II as one of the world’s first public museums. Since 1988, it has been an internationally renowned art museum. A wide spectrum of contemporary art is on display across more than 2,000 square meters of exhibition space: ranging from emerging artists to established figures. Since 1955, the 100-day documenta has been held here; it takes place every five years and will open its doors for the 17th time in 2027.

Between documenta exhibitions, the Fridericianum and the Kassel Art Association use the building. It is open during their respective special exhibitions.
