Museum of Technology

The Musum is located in Henschel Plant II. The Henschel-Werk Rothenditmold is one of the few industrial factories in which large parts of the original substance have been preserved. The historical time span ranges from the first hall buildings in 1870, through the expansion phase of the turn of the last century, to an outstanding, albeit small, object of the 1960s. The Rothenditmold plant prototypically represents the architecture, use and fate of older factory premises - it is one of the oldest locomotive production facilities of this type still preserved as an ensemble in Germany.

Inquisitive minds, tinkerers, inventors and developers in Kassel and the region were active in many fields: from astronomy to the development and craft production of the necessary equipment to the use of steam in locomotives and power plants, from the invention of profile cylinder locks to modern refrigerators, from the early mail order business to modern vehicle transmissions to innovative hub gears. Among other things, the region was once home to more than ten manufacturers of railroad equipment, numerous manufactories and factories for optical and precision mechanical devices! The Museum of Technology presents the whole range of technology and engineering from Northern Hesse.

Contemporary and current literature is kept in the archive. It is also dedicated to the digitization of old drawings of Kassel factories.

The exhibition hall is not heated in winter, please wear appropriate clothing during the winter months.
