‘Documenta’ city and Alexander von Humboldt
From the beautiful half-timbered town of Melsungen, the mostly level route leads on through the meadows and fields of the experience region of the central Fulda valley. A short trip to the other side of the Fulda to the Nazi memorial In Guxhagen at the Convent of Breitenau is worthwhile. The bike path goes on to wind right along the Fulda river to Kassel.
Many interesting bridges are on the way until you reach the Fulda meadows of the Documenta city; the famous art exhibition takes place here every 5 years. Upon arrival, the Orangerie shines through the trees like the rising sun.
You may want to stay a while, as the largest mountain park in Europe with the Hercules landmark of Kassel, plus numerous museums and parks, all make a longer stay worthwhile.
Continue on along the Fulda to the town of Hann. Münden, which Alexander von Humboldt calls a city in the most beautiful region of the world. The Fulda and the Werra "meet and kiss" in this medieval 3-river town, to continue on their journey together as the river Weser.
