In 1970, the Kassel Chamber of Crafts opened its own exhibition space at Scheidemannplatz with the Handwerksform. The changing exhibitions present the diversity of craftsmanship. A special focus is placed on creative crafts and arts and crafts.

The works of the winners of the Hessian State Prize for German Arts and Crafts are presented in changing exhibitions at HANDWERKSFORM. The prize is awarded to craftspeople who draw attention to themselves above all through their independent design approaches, innovation, mastery of materials and techniques and the convincing overall appearance of their work.

The Hessian State Prize for German Arts and Crafts is one of the most important awards for arts and crafts in Germany and is the only state prize that is awarded beyond the borders of a single federal state. This competition was launched in 1951 by the then Hessian Minister President Georg August Zinn in order to promote arts and crafts and encourage outstanding achievements. Since then, the award has been held as part of the International Frankfurt Trade Fair.
