Mit der auf Arabisch, Deutsch, Englisch und Türkisch eingemeißelten Christus-Botschaft „ICH WAR EIN FREMDLING UND IHR HABT MICH BEHERBERGT“ erinnert der Obelisk als zeitloses Monument an Migration und Verfolgung. Zugleich ist das Werk als eindringlicher Appell zu verstehen: Neben Gastfreundschaft, Toleranz und Dankbarkeit werden die demokratischen Grundwerte unserer Gesellschaft thematisiert. Der nigerianisch-US-amerikanische Künstler Olu Oguibe entwarf es für die documenta 14.
