Kunstwerk von radikalter "Unaschaulichkeit"
Mit dem „Vertikalen Erdkilometer“ schuf der US-amerikanische Künstler Walter De Maria im Jahr 1977 ein Schlüsselwerk der Land-Art und Konzeptkunst. Es besteht aus einem senkrechten Bohrloch von 1.000 Metern Tiefe, in das 167 miteinander verschraubte Messingstangen versenkt sind. Das Werk ist dem Auge größtenteils verborgen: Sichtbar ist nur die fünf Zentimeter breite Kreisfläche des Stabdurchmessers inmitten einer Bodenplatte aus Sandstein. Das unsichtbare Werk soll dazu anregen, über die Erde und ihren Ort im Universum nachzudenken.
